BEN COUPET, JR: Simeon Career Academy's NEXT Great Baller???

BEN COUPET, JR: Class of 2016

Written by: Prospect-Central

When talking about some of the most successful high school basketball programs of the past 25 years, there's no question that Simeon Career Academy (Chicago, IL) should be a serious part of the discussion.  Not only are they usually ranked as one of the top 10 teams in the country, they have won countless State & City tittles as well as produced a number of successful NBA ballers.

Nick Anderson, Bobby Simmons & Derrick Rose are just a few NBA players to pass through the halls of Simeon Career Academy.  Of course the current king of Simeon is the #1 player in the Class of 2013 Jabari Parker, who will no doubt make his reign on the NBA soon enough.  Now there appears to be a new star on the horizon for the Wolverines...6-foot-5, Ben Coupet, Jr!!!

Ben Coupet, Jr. attends Beasley Academic Center, (Derrick Rose's old middle school) and this past season he helped his 8th grade team to a 43-2 record as well as a Chicago City Championship.  The soon to be Simeon freshman averaged 15 ppg and cemented himself as one of the top players from the Class of 2016 to come out of the Midwest.

Besides dominating his grammar school league, Ben Coupet, Jr. recently had a stellar performance at the 2012 John Lucas Middle School Combine.  Despite leaving the camp early, Ben was still considered one of the top 10 players of the event.  That's a serious accomplishment and should not be taken lightly.

Prospect-Central will be releasing a "Freshman Watch List" for the Class of 2016 within the upcoming weeks and Ben Coupet, Jr. will be one of the wings featured.  With his length, athleticism, and overall skill level, he just might be the NEXT great baller to emerge from the national powerhouse known as Simeon Career Academy!!! * Ben Coupet, Jr's eighth grade mixtape.

JABARI PARKER vs JULIUS RANDLE: The First Meeting!!!

Jabari Parker: #1 Player Class of 2013

It's not very often you have a chance to see two future NBA lottery selections battle it out for the very first time on the high school hardwood.  Years from now when you see Jabari ParkerJulius Randle playing in NBA All-Star games (they will be All-Stars imo), you can think back to the time when you first saw them play against each other in high school.  While that may not be a big deal to some, to others it is.

Over the weekend, Jabari Parker and the Mac Irvin Fire squared off against Julius Randle and the Texas Titans at the 4th session of the Nike EYBL from Oakland, California.  Julius Randle not only won the battle, he won the war as well.  The Texas Titans defeated Mac Irvin Fire 63-59, behind a game high 23 points from Randle.  Julius also grabbed 13 rebounds, had 2 blocks and shot 60% from the field. Jabari finished the game with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists on 43% shooting.  While Jabari guarded Julius on defense, it was actually Duke commit Matt Jones who mostly guarded Parker.

Even though this is just one game and shouldn't be blown out of proportion, Julius Randle is definitely in the discussion for the #1 player in the Class of 2013 in my opinion.  While I still feel Jabari is deserving of that honor, the gap is clearly tightening.  It ultimately doesn't matter who graduates high school as the #1 rated player however, but it certainly matters who's drafted #1.  As of right now it's anyone's guess who shakes David Stern's hand first come 2014, but it's safe to say it will probably be either Jabari or Julius.  So here's a little glimpse of what the future of the NBA has to offer!!! *Below are 3 videos from BallisLife & HoopMixTape of the first ever battle between Jabari Parker & Julius Randle followed by Jabari's junior season mixtape & Julius's junior season mixtape.

Official Box Score: Mac Irvin Fire vs. Team Texas Titans (5/27/12)
