The Spalding Hoophall Classic is the nations premiere annual high school basketball event and it features some of the best players and teams from around the country. This year was no different. Of all the future NBA ballers in attendance there was one in particular who EVERYONE had their eyes on...none other than Shabazz Muhammad!!! The #1 player in the Class of 2012 was spectacular to say the least. In front of a packed house (including Mike Krzyzewski & John Calipari) Shabazz Muhammad put on a show worthy of a future #1 NBA draft pick.
On January 16th 2012, Shabazz Muhammad and Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, NV) squared off against DeMatha Catholic (Hyattsville, MD) at the Spalding Hoophall Classic from Springfield, Massachusetts. The game was well played by both teams, but in the end Shabazz stole the show. He finished the game with 37 points, 6 rebounds & 3 steals; cementing himself as possibly the best player in high school basketball regardless of class. Stanford commit Rosco Allen also played well for Bishop Gorman finishing the game with 18 points. The three main players for DeMatha Catholic are Syracuse commit Jerami Grant, Pittsburgh commit James Robinson & Top 30 player from the Class of 2013 BeeJay Anya. The junior point guard Jairus Lyles actually led DeMatha Catholic in scoring with 17 points.
When it comes to elite high school basketball players Shabazz Muhammad is the crown jewel. He has the size, skill, athleticism & work ethic to parlay his successful high school career into a "one & done" college campaign and then the NBA. He can score the ball in his sleep and is just scratching the surface as far as the type of player he can become. After watching Shabazz's dominating performance at the Spalding Hoophall Classic, I can see why he is receiving Kobe Bryant & James Harden comparisons. So enjoy watching Shabazz Muhammd ball in high school because before you know it he'll be taking his talents to the NBA. And who knows...maybe in 25 years Shabazz will be back in Springfield, Massachusetts...only this time it would be for the Basketball Hall-of-Fame.*This is the entire game between Bishop Gorman & DeMatha Catholic from the Spalding Hoophall Classic on January 16th, 2012.
