DARIO SARIC: The #1 Teenage Basketball Prospect in Europe???

DARIO SARIC: Croatia

Written by: Prospect-Central

For anyone that follows up-and-coming prospects in the world of basketball, Dario Saric is a name you should be more than familiar with.  The 6-foot 10 Croatian sensation has been on the radar of NBA scouts for quite sometime and at the 2012 Nike Hoop Summit from Portland, Oregon, he'll get his opportunity to show them he's one of the better prospects eligible for the 2013 NBA Draft. Whether he ceases the moment or not, is completely up to him however.  As the saying goes, "The ball is in his court!!!"

This will be Saric's second time playing at the Nike Hoop Summit.  Last year he was the youngest player in the event, but still had a solid outing with 7 points, 6 rebounds and 1 assist in only 15 minutes of action. This year he should make his presence felt even more. If he performs the same way he's been playing in recent World Team practices, look for Dario to have another nice game and cement himself as a first round pick and possibly even a lottery selection for the 2013 NBA Draft.

Dario Saric should be quite use to playing on a big stage.  His first professional contract was at the tender age of fifteen, when the Spanish club TAU Ceramica offered 3 million euros for his services. The two sides could never quite come to terms on the contract, so he ultimately ended up signing with the Croatian club KK Zagreb in 2009.  He's been playing professionally for various KK Zagreb teams ever since and has had mixed results due to limited playing time.

While his professional career may have had its ups & downs thus far, he's always performed extremely well when playing for his Croatian national teams.  He was MVP of the 2010 FIBA 16U European Championships and last summer he was one of the best players at the 2011 FIBA 19U World Championships from Latvia. Despite playing two years up in competition, Dario finished the tournament 4th in scoring (18.1 ppg) and 3rd in rebounds (10.1 rpg).  Pretty impressive considering he was playing against future NBA players in the likes of Jeremy Lamb, Patric Young and others.

What sets Dario apart from other prospects his size and age has to be his versatility, vision and play making. Even though he's 6-foot 10, Dario's able to create for himself or his teammates with his innate ability to see the play before it develops.  He's also a very capable shooter, albeit streaky at times.  He won't blow you away with his athleticism and needs to work on his defense as well as add some weight, but with such a well-rounded skill set, there's a lot to like about the future potential of his game.

There's no question Dario Saric's an excellent basketball player.  If he lived in the United States he would be a senior in high school and in the graduating Class of 2012.  In my opinion, he would be ranked somewhere within the Top 10 in the country.  There are some solid players in that class, including two sure fire NBA lottery selections in Shabazz Muhammad & Nerlens Noel.  On April 7th at the 2012 Nike Hoop Summit, Dario Saric will show the world if he can compete with these American baller's or not.  There's a decent chance he'll more than hold his own against the competition and by the end of the night, just might have the entire arena Rapping in Croatian...Dario Saric's je dobio vjestine platiti racune!!! * Below are 3 interview's of Dario Saric from the 2012 Nike Hoop Summit followed by 3 highlight videos & 1 full game.
